Local Gem: Custard’s Last Stand

A few weeks back we traveled to a small little town southeast of Kansas City to watch my niece play volleyball. The drive there lasted longer than the game, kind of disappointing, but we still were happy to see her play once this season.

The highlight of the journey was that we had to travel through Lee’s Summit, home to one of the best little gems we’ve found since living in the Kansas City area, Custard’s Last Stand.

It. Is. Amazing.

I’m glad we found this place when we lived in Lee’s Summit, but happier we found it after my pregnancy with our oldest. We would have been hitting this place all too often if we’d known about it.

First things first, it’s located right on 291 Highway in Lee’s Summit. It’s a cute little shop that plays 50s & 60s music, like Elvis. The decor is amazing and fun and they even bring your food out in a paper covered tray in the shape of a guitar. It’s different and fun.

My kids loved it. They have a short bar with stools on one side with chalkboard top for the kids to color and draw. There is a booth that is kid sized…our kids ate their food alone in it. And a cute little bench that looks like the seat of a car with a pink “exterior.” Love it.

Then there’s the food. Obviously…they have sweet treats. Custard. I mean, their concretes are amazing. I personally fell in love with the salty mama about 7 years ago. It’s so yummy. But I realized this go around since I haven’t had it in a while…so sweet! The ice cream is great, fantastic, so many options.

But what we would drive 40 minutes for are the fries. And if you’re going to have fries you might as well throw in a burger. Their food is always fresh, hot and delicious.

And if all that’s not enough for you, you can also purchase gourmet popcorn here, too. They have it all. Don’t believe me? Check out their website: custardslaststand.com. Or just drop by their location. They also have a shop open in Blue Springs.

Love this place and wish it was a little closer to where we live now.

On second thought…it’s better this way. I would splurge way too often if it were any closer. This place makes me wanna dig out my poodle skirt (if I had one) and twist and shout! Check it out. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
